Reshaping an oval

The Allan Border Oval, KOE Pavilion is over 80 years old and starting to show its age. Mosman Council had commissioned a number of studies and assessments on the Pavilion which identified its shortcomings; including the occasional flooding of the changing rooms. Everyone agreed the building did not meet the needs of current users including sport groups and fans. The Council appointed Archer Office architect to prepare a concept for the site and City Plan Strategy & Development prepped the DA.

OUR
SOLUTION

Whilst the grandstand is not individually listed, the area in which it sits, Mosman Park, is listed as a local heritage item under MLEP2012, so the DA needed a Statement of Heritage Impact (SOHI). Because of our expertise in this area, City Plan Strategy & Development asked Artefact to prepare the SoHI.

SUCCESS

The redevelopment of the pavilion was approved by the Mosman Local Planning Panel. Current plans show a new building which meets the needs of users with better access and more facilities. Construction started at the end of the summer cricket season!

'These stylish and functional sporting facilities provide improved accessibility, casual recreational facilities and a building that allows for growth in the local sporting clubs while setting new standards in heritage, sustainability, public space and accessibility.'
