NICHOLAS TURVEY

HERITAGE CONSULTANT

I work within the Archaeology team as a Graduate Heritage Consultant. Coming into this role, I bring over three years’ experience working in the field, across a variety of First Nations and Historical excavations.

ABOUT

NICHOLAS

"My favourite part of being an archaeologist is getting to work with lots of different communities. It is incredibly rewarding to learn from so many people, and for me, it really cemented the importance of achieving positive heritage outcomes in all the work I do."

I also love the hands-on nature of the job. This led me to pursue a career as a sub-consultant archaeologist after graduating, where I was given the opportunity to work on archaeological sites within Sydney, and all-around NSW. I love working outdoors (especially in the bush), so I appreciate any occasion to do so!

A highlight of my career was excavating a site only 5mins walk from my childhood home. I found uncovering the local heritage of the suburb I grew up in deepened my appreciation of my own heritage.

MY ARTEFACT

My artefact is a brick taken from the first ever cess pit I dug! It was my first job within the heritage industry, and once I finished digging the feature, I knew I wanted to see where a career in archaeology could take me.
