ABOUT

KATHERINE

"I have always been interested in history and knew I wanted to become an archaeologist in some capacity since I can remember (I credit this to having watched ‘Time Team’ with my family since I was a child). I studied archaeology and ancient history at university and have been fortunate enough to do fieldwork at a historic mining village, 19th Century homesteads and Aboriginal salvage projects in Australia during my studies."

I’ve also had the opportunity to work in museums; as a collections officer and as part of education teams. Getting to be a part of researching and sharing history has been a great privilege.

MY ARTEFACT

My artefact is a glass bottle from the Ponds Extract Company found in Manly NSW. This type of historical bottle is honestly a dime a dozen, it isn’t particularly unique, but I love how simple pieces like this can connect to both individuals; their needs, and consumptions as well as indicate wider themes of technological innovation, production and economies. There is always so much to learn when you trace the history of even the simplest artefacts. There are so many people’s histories connected to one item.
