EMILY BENNETT

PEOPLE & CULTURE LEAD

I am the People and Culture Lead at Artefact. My role is to enhance our employee experience and foster a positive work environment.

I initially joined Artefact as a Senior Heritage Consultant. After almost 15 years in the industry, I decided to retrain as a psychologist. I am passionate about working with people to help realise the best of themselves in their teams and workplace. This role is a perfect symbiosis of my past and present passions.

ABOUT

EMILY

During my career as a heritage consultant I contributed to many major redevelopment projects in Sydney. Working on sites like Barangaroo and the revitalisation of Parramatta offered unique opportunities to deepen the city’s historical record that could only emerge through the process of archaeological excavation.

"As People and Culture Lead I am deeply committed to the broader idea of mental wellbeing, reaching beyond the conventional focus on mental health. As the landscape of work continues to shift, nurturing authentic wellbeing within professional environments remains vital for both individuals and organisations. Undertaking a Masters in Organisational Psychology, I am keen to develop Employment Assistance Programs that challenge convention - creating responsive, human centred support systems that adapt to the evolving realities of today’s workplace."

MY ARTEFACT

The backyard of the house I grew up in had been used as a rubbish dump for the late-nineteenth century hotel next door. As a kid, I couldn't believe the treasures that were there for me to explore Aboriginal stone tools, a rusted pistol, toy figurines, spectacles, and plenty of everyday tableware just like this stoneware pickle jar. Connecting those objects to real people in my imagination sparked my journey as a heritage consultant.
