AMANDA

I work in Artefact's Historical Archaeology team as a Graduate Heritage Consultant and archaeologist.

Sydney’s history is one of my passions, and I love getting to work directly with uncovering its past, present and preparing for its future.

I get to write reports for clients, research historical backgrounds on sites and then actually be on the field digging and/or surveying (which is my favourite part!).

ABOUT

AMANDA

I have excavated in Portugal at Castelo Velho de Safara – a Roman Republic/Iron Age site - and done some work at First Nations’ sites in Southern New South Wales.

This is far from where I thought I would end up, as I wanted to become an Egyptologist when I was a kid.

I fell in love with Australian history at university and decided that I just had to know as much as I could about it.

I volunteered at the University of Sydney’s Australian Archaeological Institute at Athens (AAIA), with the digitisation of documents and photographs, and at the Ryde District Historical Society with digitising the Field of Mars Cemetery database.

MY ARTEFACT

My artefact is my Cleopatra necklace!

I got it from a street vendor who carved coins into pendants when I was in Portugal for my first dig. I immediately spotted Cleopatra among the many historical figures and national animals from all over the world and knew I had to have it.

This necklace represents my first archaeological adventure and my eternal love for history.
