HISTORICAL HERITAGE
As highly experienced project leaders, Artefact has been lead consultant on many major projects. Our planning and management systems ensure that projects are completed in a timely, professional manner, working in partnership with our clients.
Since 2010 Artefact is proud to have worked on a diverse range of large and small-scale infrastructure and development projects.
During this time we have built-up extensive experience in a variety of sectors including rail, roads, power and renewables, health, greenfields development and urban renewal.
Some of the more well-known projects we've been involved with include: Central Station Metro; Parramatta Light Rail; Sydney Metro City & Southwest; Wickham Transport Interchange; Northern Beaches Hospital; St Vincent’s Private Hospital; Concord Forensic Mental Health Unit; Sydney Harbour Bridge; The Northern Road Stages 1 & 2; Berry to Bomaderry Upgrade (Princes Highway); West Wyalong Solar Farm; and Wind Farm and Transmission Line projects in the Pilbara and Western NSW.

The scale of this project required extensive planning and the establishment of an inventory of relevant golf courses to streamline team coordination and research.
With the application of this inventory, the 39 golf courses were evaluated by Artefact’s heritage specialists to establish:
- The origins and history of each golf course
- Environmental context
- The heritage importance of architectural and landscaping features
- Current heritage listings
- Overlapping heritage conservation areas
The result was a comprehensive history of North Sydney’s golf courses to inform the significant heritage and potential risks from future works.
Findings identified 15 of the 39 operating golf courses to be registered as heritage items on Local Environmental Plans and 3 golf courses falling within locally listed heritage conservation areas.
Historical research also revealed the earliest records of golfing in Australia taking place in 1839, on grounds which are now part of the University of Sydney Campus; 45 years prior to the 1884 establishment of Australia’s first formal golf club, The Australian Golf Club at Kensington.
