ALEX

I have worked in the field of interpretation for over 18 years now, across museums and heritage sites in the UK and Australia. My role is to manage heritage interpretation projects; looking for exciting and diverse ways to engage the public with their past. Previously I have worked at the Australian National Maritime Museum in Sydney, Historic Royal Palaces, the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum in the UK. I have also volunteered to work for smaller heritage organisations in London and Sydney. I love storytelling, history and travel - so I think I have the best job in the world!

ABOUT

ALEX

My love of heritage comes from family holidays growing up - when my parents took us to castles in North Wales or the Cinque Ports on the south coast of England. I love to imagine myself travelling back in time! But my first degree was in Physics which lead me to work as a meteorologist in Antarctica.

When I returned to the UK I realised my favourite part of the job was sharing my love of science and natural history. So I studied a Masters in Science Communication and since then I have worked in the museums and heritage sector.

The highlights of my career include meeting the great great grandson of Charles Darwin, holding the met register from The Worst Journey in the World, working on Poppies at the Tower, and watching a fleet of Pacific Islands vakas arrive in Darling Harbour.

MY ARTEFACT

I’m from the UK so I find there is nothing that can’t be solved by having a nice cup of tea, a chocolate digestive and a good think.
